How to Make Your PC Energy Efficient

If you are seriously thinking of saving on electricity bills, ensure to unplug your laptop or computer after each use. This simple task can save you hundreds of dollars at the end of the year - and what's more, you can apply the same principle when it comes to your home appliances, thus, giving you additional savings.
Sometimes you may wonder why your electric bill soars to almost 50 percent of your usual monthly due. You may not know it but when you neglect some things that you think are not important the result are awful most of the time. The same is true when you talk about electricity and energy consumption. You can start saving energy with one of your most commonly used appliance – your computer.

A simple task as turning your computer off when it is not in use can greatly help you in your attempt to save energy and money. The common thing for most users is to leave the computer in stand-by mode when going for a long break. This is not a good idea since the computer will still use up energy unless you turn it off totally and unplug it.

If you are only planning to use your computer for not more than 20 minutes, you might want to shut it off right after. Or at least turn on the energy saving feature so that it will automatically shut down the hard disk and the monitor after you leave it for a set period of time. This is important because the monitor consumes almost 70% of the energy used by the computer.

Now if you don’t have any plans of returning soon to your computer after you use it, you might as well shut it down properly. Like most electronic devices, the computer uses more energy when left on for a very long time. You would rather turn it off and on again as when it is needed. Don’t worry about the power button getting worn out with your frequent poking because you will actually get to save more if you use it more often.

Newer models of laptops and computer monitors today allow users to save as much as ninety percent of electricity than with the older standard models. If you have enough savings for a new computer monitor, replace your older one since the older models are bigger and bigger means you get to use more energy when using it.

Lastly, do not ignore the most important features of your computer which includes power management. Explore and experiment on how these features work. These features are often taken for granted but when you use them to your advantage, you will save a lot on money and energy.
